Nuri Sahin Biography – Early life:
Nuri Sahin was born in 1988 to Turkish immigrants Savaş Şahin (father) and Nezaket Şahin (mother). His parents immigrated to Germany and settled in Meinerzhagen in South Westphalia in which Nuri was born.
Just like his older brother, Nuri Sahin’s Grandfather signed him into RSV Meinerzhagen at age 4. Their coach described the two brothers as inseparables. Kicking the ball everywhere, in the street, near the river as well as on the pitch. They even played together for an entire season when he was promoted to the C youth team.
In 2001, Borussia Dortmund approached the young player. Although he was 12 years old at the time, the yellow blacks recruited Nuri Sahin for their young team. As he recalls, he commuted 5 times a week to training and back home.
Nuri Sahin Biography – Breakthrough
In 2005, Nuri Sahin led the Turkish U17 national team to win the European Championship title in Belgium. He then was voted player of the tournament.
Afterwards, Premiere league clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United tried to sign Nuri Sahin. Arsen Wenger described him as one of the most talented youngster and also went as far as offering Borussia Dortmund 3 million euros to sell the then 16 years old. Borussia Dortmund declined the offer.
Shortly afterwards, Nuri Sahin was brought up to the professional team in Borussia Dortmund. He played his first Bundesliga game at 16 years and 335 days against VfL Wolfsburg, making him the youngest ever Bundesliga player. In November 25 of the same year, Nuri Sahin managed to score his first goal for Borussia Dortmund in a game against 1.FC Nurnberg, becoming the youngest Bundesliga goal scorer. His record breaking season finished with 23 appearances and 1 goal.
The Turkish wonder-kid moved to the Eredivisie on a one year loan playing for Feyenoord in 2007 which allowed him to get his first title, the KNVB cup.
During this year, Nuri Sahin married his cousin Tugba Emeni.
After returning to Borussia Dortmund and getting more experienced, Nuri Sahin played an exceptional 2009-2010 season. As a matter of fact, the Turkish wonder-kid started in 33 matches, scored 4 goals and set up 8 assists.
The next season was the turning point for the young midfielder. Not only did he end up with 6 goals and 8 assists and won the Bundesliga, he was also voted Bundesliga player of the season.
Nuri Sahin Biography – Real Madrid
In the conference room at Signal Iduna Park, Nuri Sahin announced on the 9th of May 2011 his departure to Real Madrid. The transfer fee was 10 million Euros for a 6 year contract. According to Nuri Sahin, this move was appealing for two reasons, one of which is the size of the Spanish club, the other is playing under Jose Mourinho.
Nuri Sahin was sidelined by injury on August in the same year before coming back and scoring his first goal for the Madrid team in Copa Del Rey. His performance for the Spanish team was praised by both Mourinho and the Spanish press.
Afterwards, Real Madrid agreed to loan Nuri Sahin to Liverpool FC on a one year deal. On September 26th, Sahin managed to score two goals for Liverpool in a cup match against West Bromwich Albion. Leaving Liverpool with a total of 12 appearances, 3 goals and 3 assists, Nuri Sahin admitted that he was never happy in either Real Madrid nor Liverpool. However, he was grateful he got to play alongside Liverpool captain Steven Gerard.
Nuri Sahin Biography – Back to Dortmund
After the Liverpool spell, Nuri Sahin came back to Borussia Dortmund in 2013 for a one year loan deal from Real Madrid. He described this comeback as a “sign” that he belonged with the German club and that “he was meant to play in Dortmund Forever”.
Borussia Dortmund secured the complete move for the Turkish Midfielder for a sum of 7 million euros in 2014.

In the last day of the 2018 summer transfer window, Nuri Sahin posted an emotional letter to fans and club on twitter. German media confirmed afterwards his move to Werder Bremen on a 1 million euro fee.
